Different people have different requirements when it comes to insurance coverage for their two-wheeler. To cater to their different needs, we have three main types of two-wheeler insurances.

Comprehensive policy

This two wheeler insurance plan protects the owner from the costs incurred in accidental damages to a third party as well as to own vehicle. You can even select add-ons by paying a nominal additional premium, to enhance your coverage under such cover. It also provides you with a personal accident cover of ₹15 lakh for accidental death and disability at a small additional premium.

Who is it suitable for?

Standalone own damage policy

Our stand-alone own damage two wheeler insurance plan covers the damages to your bike or scooter caused by natural disasters like earthquake, flood, cyclone, landslide, etc. or man-made disasters like theft, burglary, riot, strike, etc.

Benefits of having a bike insurance

Owning and riding a bike offers a lot of advantages. For example, buying and maintaining a two-wheeler is much cheaper and easier than a car. Despite these advantages, riding a bike is extremely dangerous when the condition of the roads are bad and there is heavy traffic. Also, factors like bad weather, road spills, rash driving by other drivers can harm you and your vehicle. Not to mention, bike theft has become a raging problem in recent years. Hence, having a reliable bike insurance policy is more of a necessity. Here are few benefits that two-wheeler insurance offers:

Financial protection
Roadside assistance
Coverage for spare parts
required in repairs
Coverage for bike theft
Coverage for accidental injuries

Why is bike insurance necessary?

Bike insurance offers a host of coverage features that can save you a lot of money and effort. These include coverage for repairing accidental damage to your bike, personal accident cover, and much more. Secondly, having an insurance policy while driving any vehicle is necessary. Being caught riding a bike without an insurance policy can lead to a fine of ₹2000 and/or imprisonment.

How to effectively compare bike insurance premium?

We all love a good deal; insurance premium is no exception. A bike insurance quote may look appealing on the face of it, but do take a closer look before you make a decision so that there are no surprises at the time of claim. Here’s a step by step guide to do just that:

  • 1

    Premium break-up

Ask for a premium break-up and take a closer look at the components

  • 2

    Own damage premium

Look for own damage premium in your break-up. This is what actually covers your bike – damages, repairs and theft. If you are unable to find it, know that the policy won’t cover your accidental damages.

While checking for OD premium pay attention to the following 2 factors:

    • 1.
IDV: IDV (Insured Declared Value). Your premium will be low if the IDV coverage is inadequate.
    • 2.
NCB: NCB is the discount that you get if you have not made any claim in the previous policy year. To be eligible for this you must renew your policy within 90 days of expiry. The point worth noting is that, even though NCB brings down your premium, incorrect NCB will lead to claim rejection when you need it the most. So, get a genuine policy that will actually help you in your hour of need.
  • 3

    Third party premium

This cover protects you in case you cause harm to any third party in an accident.

    • 1. Up to ₹1 lakh worth of coverage for third party property damage.
    • 2. Unlimited coverage in case of death or disability of another person. This amount is decided by court.

This premium is standard across all insurance companies.

  • 4

    Personal accident premium

It is mandatory to have a personal accident cover for the owner-driver of any vehicle. This cover is for an individual. So, you only need one such cover even if you own multiple vehicles.

  • 5

    Add-on premium

Check if your requested add-ons are present in the break-up. This will ensure that you get the coverage you have asked for and you are aware of the amount you are paying for them.
